Port Alberni is the gateway to Vancouver Island's west coast, straddling Highway 4, the only paved highway to cross central Vancouver Island.
The community sits at the head of Alberni Inlet, a deep fjord coming in from the Pacific Ocean to the west.
With the advantage of being no more than 400 kilometers (250 miles) by road from virtually every other community on the island, Port Alberni is a natural choice for a base from which to explore Vancouver Island's many attractions, and the obvious choice for experiencing the wilderness and adventures of the west coast.
